学校要求500-1000，我写了1500，可怎么也无法cut 啦，不知这样是否收影响。

For 1000 limitation, 1500 is terrible. You had better write according to the requirements.

true, an essay that cross the limit says that you are not concise, and you can not follow instructions. So it's best for you to cut it down.

It's ok for 10% longer than suggested length according to many people. In your case, I think that's 1100. My opinion.

consider this: after you graduate from a good MBA program, you get a very good job.
you go to a big company trying to negotiate a big deal, the CEO tells you that you only have 20 minutes to convince him....

this happens all the time in the business world. and I bet the adcom people are looking at your essay thinking about the same scenario I describe above.

I have seen one feedback from the Columbia Ad Com staff, saying that for 1000 word limit, 1007 is fine but 1017 is too much!

anyway, I think 1050 is really too much, let alone 1500.
