CK vs brandeis -how to choose

This is my first offer. Aiming much higher but landing a low offer. Painfully, this is maybe the only offer I can expect and cannot afford to one more year.

75% tuition waived.

是他们的international business school, MBA. brandeis 学校还是很不错的 但是据说mba不行 不知道各位怎么看.毕业后在波士顿地区就业困难吗?听说有暴多中国人在brandeis 哪位校友能分享一下呢?

Can any alumni share your experience? How is it compared with a demestic MBA program, say CK? Thanks

I don't know what you career goal is. If you want to land a job in US, go to Brandeis. However, if you want to stay in China, Ck is definitely your first choice. I'm a student in CK. If you want to know more inside information about CK, you can write email to me. Jerry_zheng06@mail.ckgsb.edu.cn Wish you good luck!

关键问题在于:你希望MBA毕业后在哪里就业?美国还是中国内地

我的看法是,如果你拿到的不是美国TOP15商学院的OFFER,其实出国读MBA的投入产出比不是很好,个人意见仅供参考。

CK has many exchange opportunities with top business schools, UC Berkley, Darden, IE, Carlson, maybe plus Columbia and UCLA next year. So CK is also a nice consideration.

Actually CK is a nice MBA program and I am impressed with it.

In terms of career objective, I really want to see if I can stay in USA for a couple of years, gaining some real overseas experience. Yes, it is a shame unable to get in a top 15, but I believe we can make a difference by ourselves.

I have some concerns over the job placements in CK, esp the job quality. No further reports available to refer to.

I never heard of Brandeis business school so it is hard to give you any comments. Brandeis is a Jewish school and is fine in its biological science. My suggestion is to go over its web page and check the following:

1. do you want to stay in the US or come back to China? If you come back to China, a Brandeis degree will get you nowhere.

2. its facutly, it has many adjunct professors, overall quality lower than CEIBS and CKGSB. Its faculty will not get an offer from either CEIBS or CKGSB given their current record. For example, in finance, they only have four regular faculties,(2 Full, 2 Assistant) others are all adjunct professors. the best three journals are Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies and Journal of Financial Economics. check the faculty's publication in these journals. Blake Lebaron is OK.

3. Placement, don't know but my guess is that it is between 60,000-70,000 range. In three or four years, CEIBS and CKGSB people should make more than that given the appreciation of RMB. In terms of purchasing power, the current graduates of CK/CEIBS are already better than that

4. if you want to have overseas experience and still want to go back to china, Again try CEIBS/CKGSB. CEIBS has exchanges with UNC, Duke, etc and CKGSB has exchanges with UC Berkeley, unversity of Virginia and University of Minnesota, etc

In terms of job placement, several graduates have got over 1 million package now. This year, 1/3 got offer from consulting firms and average package would be higher than those of past years. You can get the career report of the first two intake from website and there are many changed their jobs so far.

Thank you for comments. What is "adjunct professor"? How to assess the faculty quality at an MBA program?

"If you come back to China, a Brandeis degree will get you nowhere." do you believe an oversea's MBA will have no edge over local ones? Can you expand on this.

Now in painful stage to decide the next step.

Impressive. I talked to career services at CK, and am impressed with their effective work. The point is, international experience cannot be expected too much given the low international student proportion, and short-term exchange program cannot offer a real experience simply because 3 months is too short to gain some insight into the culture.

Of course career and job rank first always. I also have more confidence with CK in this respect. Overall, welcome more comments.

Now in painful stage to decide the next step.

1. Adjunct Professors are those people who have other jobs or are not qualified as a Professor but they provide teaching for the students. they are not required to have Phds. A high proportion of Adjunct Professor is a bad signal

2. a Harvard or Stanford degree will be respected. A Brandeis degree will be ignored.  Personally, I would rather have a CK degree than a Brandeis degree. if you have a view of the CKGSB video, you will find that we had students accepted to Harvard, Carnegie Mellon, Wisonconsin, MIT but decided to join CKGSB (some due to visa issues in early years). These days Chinese are not so stupid as simply equal a foreign education to a better education. Now they know the difference between good schools and bad schools. Frankly speaking, Brandeis International Business School is not a serious school to get respect from people who know business school well. For example, CKGSB is doing joint programs with Columbia, Insead, UCLA, Wharton, UC Berkeley, Darden. CKGSB is also talking with LBS, NYU etc. Ckgsb will never do anything like that with Brandeis and Brandeis will have no way to work with business schools of that caliber

3. For someone who have never been abroad and given the current inferiority complex many Chinese have regarding US, it is understandable that you still think Brandeis is a valuable choice. At one point in the nineties, any school in US is better than China. However, it is changing now. The faculty, course rigor, alumni strength, placement are much better in CKGSB/CEIBS than Brandeis unless you really want to go abroad. The best way is to ask questions to people who has been abroad ( I mean from top schools) and your supervisors for their opinions.

4. Many people really do not know what they want to do. This is a tragedy of the Chinese education and thus blind follows the blind. You really have to know what you want to achieve in life and whether Brandeis will help you achieve that goal. Don't just go abroad for the purpose of going abroad. Go to Brandeis if you want to go abroad. Try CEIBS/CKGSB if you want to go to a better business school in terms overall education and peer strength. Have you applied to CEIBS/CKGSB?

5. The exchange between CKGSB and DArden runs from August to February. If you want to, you can always try to apply to try to extend or get practical training. i do not know how hard it is.

Choice is never painful. It is a luxuary
