Generally speaking, an essay in AWA should have no less than 300 words to develop a clear position and to be well organized. Good chance is that E-rater ("I am a machine!!!") will not penalize you when you use a widely-used module. However, we can not rule out the possibility that the human rater, seldom reviewing the essays, can find the little trick. STILL, IT NEVER HAPPEN IN GMAT, once in GRE.
The Reading part in OG is really classic. And the real test will adapt the difficulty of the passages according to your performance in previous questions, so if you encounter a passage far more difficult than those in OG, congratulations!!!! Seriously, the passages in real tests, more often than not, are of about the same level as those in OG.
