“the other”的用法求解

图一中这道题A的解释说the other的用法不完整，应该是one the other，所以A是错的
图二里这道题的A不也是只有the other吗》为什么它又对了？？
大神们有明白的吗？

第一题的the other在语法上是没有错误的。
但是这个看似挺完美的the other其实赘余了。
这个the other其实是想把传染病（infections）分为两类，一类是前面讲过的天花，一类是后面讲的这些“其它”传染病（也就是the other infections）。
咱们联系整个句意看一下，句子说，根除天花的这个项目的成功刺激了专家们去追求以前不敢想的东西。这个句子表明，天花已经被根除了。
注意划线部分的插入语：better control, if not eradication。也就是说，划线部分里提到的这个infections，肯定是那些不能被根除的。（只有不能根除的，才能谈到better control嘛，根除了就不用控制了）
因此，划线部分中，只要我们说infections，观众就知道这些infections里不含天花了，而不用再加上the other来从infections里排除天花。
