Welcome to Ivey

Hello old friends and new folks,

Sorry for dissappearing so long time. Forgive BraveMBA. I am now studying at Richard Ivey (Canada). The beginning of the program, like most of the programs, is very tense. But I am still alive and enjoying.

There are 43 Chinese students (mainland) at Ivey, nearly 20 percent or so. Many of us are CDers. CD makes us know each other quickly after arrived at Ivey. Besides ICC(Ivey China Club), we also establish MBA2006 Chinese Community, mainly for teamwork study, happy life and business plan for our career development. Right now, although the study is tough, we are happy and united. We are fighting for the honor of Chinese. So far, we did a good job.

We know clearly the hardship of application, GMAT/TOEFL. We also know choosing a proper business school is very important, especially one suitable for yourself. If you are or plan to apply Ivey MBA program, please contact us without any hesitation. We will do what we can to help you.

To do this, we introduce Delia Pan(also a CDer) to you. She is right now Ivey Connect Rep and Ivey Student Ambassador as well. Following is her brief introduction:

-------------------------------------------------------

undergraduate: BA in Economics;
Universtiy: ZhongShan University;
Professionlism: Brand manager;
Future career interest: Finance and Marketing;

Years of working experience: 6;

----------------------------------------------------------

She will be representing Ivey Chinese Community to help you find your answers about application and Ivey. She also encourages you guys to have a look at following websites first:

www.ivey.ca/mba;
www.iveymbaa.org;
http://groups.ivey.uwo.ca/studentambassadors/

From now on, you are not alone during your application. Welcome to Ivey, Welcome to Ivey Chinese Community. You can also access our website : http://groups.msn.com/ivey2006.

Any questions, please leave messages here or email to : iveychinese(在) gmail.com

Hopefully we can help you and look forward to meeting you the next year.

Thanks a lot!

I am planning to apply Ivey right now, but some guies told me that Ivey extremely cares applicant's oral English skills, which are my weakness. So, is it correct, or how can we handle this?

Thank for you guies' unselfish help, we really appreciate it.

braveMBA: thank you very much.

I intend to apply for ivey this year. Could u give me some information about  profile of student coming from the mainland? u know, commonly, the student profile given by the school is overall, not specific to particular demographic, information such as G\T average score, age, GPA things like that. Btw, are there mandatory requirement about minimum GPA for chinese applicants?

Thanks again and hope for u can have a happy and very fruitful journey at IVEY.

almost forgot, recently, I heard from some of my friends about guarantee deposit Canada embassy required of perspective students who will study in Canada. They said the mandatory requirement is financial warrants equal to 600,000 RMB even if the actual cost schools require is lower than this amount. Could you give me some information about this such as the credibility of this wording, on the basis of your VISA experiences. Thank you.

willandgrace,

Don't worry too much of your oral English. A sort of right, Ivey focuses on communication skill, especially aggressive oral skill. But Ivey MBA is a general management program, it also looks at your overall ability. So, try to balance your application components. Interview is just a routine event. Well prepared will definitely help you go through it.

If you have further questions, you can email to Delia, who may assign a current MBA1 student of Ivey to help you during your whole application, of course, a Chinese student. Also, any question, you can post here. Our pleasure to answer as possible as we can.

Good luck.

willandgrace,

Good to see you here. What BraveMBA told you was totally right. Since Ivey is general management MBA program, it emphasizes the "big picture" of each applicant. Make sure you demonstrate your well-round skills in your application. Visionlize that your skills, your personality, and your experience will enrich the learning experience of the whole MBA class.

It's true that Ivey will interview every applicant via face to face interview or telephone. But don't worry too much about it. After you get the notice of interview, take some days to well prepare for the interview questions, then you will be fine!

If you have any specific questions in the near future, feel free to shoot me a email: iveychinese(在) gmail.com

Good Luck!

Delia

Tony 6,

Thank you for your questions.

For your first questions, I don't have the data in hand and I doubt that our program office will give our student body this type of information. But I will try to contact the program office for it.  As far as I know, there is no minimum GPA requirement to Mainland Chinese student. Regarding GMAT, I know one of our mainland Chinese classmate's GMAT is below 650.

For your second questions, give me some time to figure it out.

Good luck. Should you have any specific questions, feel free to shoot me email: iveychinese(在) gmail.com
