Hi kfcnhl,

I think your background is good enough to get you admission into the NYU RE program. Take time preparing and showing your passion etc in your package.

What specific positions are you interested in REITs?

Good luck!

I wanted to do valuation and acquisitions etc.
Not so sure what other type of positions are available( operation, development?)
Could you explain a bit further or is there some book I should take a look?

A lot of funds wants to hire 5 years experienced, that's why I wanted to do a master in RE.

Thanks,

US REITs are not currently hiring a lot. In this recession, their priority is to keep their G&A low, maintain their EBITDA, and calm down their investors. It is very difficult to get valuation/acquisition jobs as an international students, especially when you don't have US status.
REITs in Asia are in different situation. There are many new REITs in Asia every year, managing and developing a growing portfolio of assets. If you are interested in going back to Asia (HK/SG), you should have chance to shoot a good mid-level technical/managerial position, say valuation or acquisition.
Please correct me if I am wrong on anything! Good luck!

I am actually a Canadian citizen.
Are the REITs in Canada hiring at all?
What kind of positions are easy to get in other than valuation/acquisition?

Thanks,

I am not really familiar with Canadian REITs. You may check the career section of major REITs' websites. See if they are hiring. As a Canadian citizen, you can work in the US if the company is willing to offer you TN-1 or H1-B, which I think most REITs in the US won't really offer.
