我的思路可能比较简单化，我的理解是既然文中说EEG只能在某些时候探测出这种什么东东，而结论的前半句用了让步状语，我自然的感觉后半句是要说和前半句不同的东西，所以我认为D恰好补充说明，使得句意比较完整。

Agree. As you can see from the passage, sometimes EEG can not detect the pulses. So D finishes the passage well.
