Princeton Review Mock Exam Math Question - Confusing answer

Question 21:  What is the value of x?

(1) (x + 2)(x + 3) = 0

(2)  x2 + 5x +6 = 0

(A) Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient.
(B) Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient.
(C) BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient.
(D) EACH statement ALONE is sufficient.
(E) Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT SUFFICIENT

The correct answer is E.  And the explanation is very confusing "It is impossible to answer this question using any of the information offered by Statements 1 & 2 or any combination thereof."  I picked D because (1) alone give us the answer of X= -2 or X = -3.  (2) alone give us the same answer.
If you have better explanation please let me know.  I'm utterly confused by this one.

问题问的是the value of x, not the possible values of x. x=-2 or -3 is not a definitive answer for "the value of x". 希望对你有帮助。

Thanks!

I guess when they ask for value it should just be on definitive value.
Thanks!
