[求助] 请教杨鹏长难句里的一个句子

原句： Traditionally, pollination by wind has been viewed as reproductive process marked by random events in which the vagaries of the wind are compensated for by the generarion of vast quantities of pollen, so that the ultimate production of new seeds is assured at the expense of producing much more pollen than is sctually used.

解释中提到： 文中不是按照中文的习惯说 are compensated, 而是说 compensated for, 这是由于主语 the vagaries of the wind 并是不是被补偿的对象，而是补偿原因。

但译文又是翻译成 “风的反复无常/被大量的产生花粉/所补偿”

这样看来是不是有矛盾啊？老是想不通，还请大侠们指点

虽然这本书对我帮助很大，但是不得不说实在是很粗糙。

这种翻译和解释会自相矛盾的情况不止这一句，我都怀疑是不是流水线操作，翻译和解释并不是同一个人做的。

译文是对的，解释的不够清楚，for 后面是补偿的对象，结构是：x compensate y for sth.

这里我理解是compensate wind(y) for its vagaries(sth.) by the generarion of vast quantities of pollen (x)
