TOEFL helps provide a standard for evaluating the pool of international students. Essays, recommendation, and interview are other ways to find out how well the applicant can communicate. From the applicant's perspective, if you are a good test taker, won't hurt to bump your score up so that you stand above others in this area. If you can write well and speak well, it would probably be more effective for you to spend the time preparing your essays, interview, and helping your recommenders. Make sure your weakness doesn't hinder you (the scores you have now shouldn't) and then work on highlighting your strength. |
