Thanks for your advice.

Background: G 760/4, T 620/5, GPA 3.0, working experience 8 years, in IT industry, marketing

Want to come back to marketing field after graduation.

Hi, lyw4u2005

Congratulation
first! Your offer is the best of Smith School, it is the highest honor.
You will only work 10-12 hours a week in the second year, and pay the
in-state tuition about USD 20K. And the Community Ambasador in 2nd year
is a GA position, you will get bi-weekly allowance almost covering your
living expense.

I don't know how much Calson give you. Just wish you good luck!

Thank you, leobear.

20K is too much for me, and plus the first year living expenses, the
number will go up to +30K. Carlson's offer will cover the tuition
fully, about +30K for each year. Plus a 5k stipend per year. That means
I just need to pay for my own living expenses.

quote: pay the in-state tuition about USD 20K. The email from Smith did not talk about it. Maybe they will in the formal letter.

In
my opinion, if you can get internship in the summer, you can earn over
10k $ to cover some of your tuition in the second year.

The money is not a big problem. The question is which area has more marketing job opportunities in the future.

Best luck!

Thank you for sharing with me your advice. As for marketing
job opportunities, I think there is no big difference between these two
schools. Carlson has local Twin Cities, while Smith has close D.C and
Baltimore. Maybe the industry recruiters are different. Smith has more
IT recruiters and Carlson has more manufacturers. For markeing field,
does this difference make sense? Looking forward to your further
opinion.

If you do worry about financial issues, just pick up the one that provides more money, because job-wise these schools are no different from each other.

I was in a similar situation as yours two years ago (same packages as yours from Smith and Carlson), but ended up with a school that provides even more money.  Now I have just accepted an offer from the Leadership Program of a Fortune 500 financial service firm.

Career services in second-tier schools are similarly unsatisfactory but any one of them does have some great companies recruiting on campus. It is up to you to grasp these few opportunities. Good luck

Thanks a lot, zdcgy

Yes, I do care about money issues. And Carlson offered me the best scholarship among four packages from all the 2-tier schools I applied to. Totally agree with you about job-searching issues. Sincerely, you are really strong enough to land such a good job. Congratulations!
