这么多帖，没人具体说一说什么是垃圾导师。你认为导师什么行为算是不好的？

我不会提供具体的案例，但是以我的经历总结一下，什么样的学校不建议去（仅以accounting方向为例）：

1. 美国南方公立大U；
2. Faculty里没有tenured中国人，该专业在读博士生里有少于一个中国人；

在这里，我提一个观点，就是一定要看看系里tenured faculty的水平。一个系tenured faculty如果说相比其他peer university的研究水平更差，既非journal editor又没有持续稳定的学术产出，那只能说明他既不努力水平相对普通，在学术圈也没有很多connection。这样的人不太能帮你发出论文。更重要的是，这类老师既然不搞学术，有精力的话也只能折腾学生，各位要注意。

Earlier, one referred to similar problems existing at a middle-ranked public school in the Northeast of the United States. Academic and moral issues relating to faculty-PhD student relationships concentrate in middling schools; they are relatively rare in both top schools and those towards the bottom. Some of the reasons underlying this perplexng phenomenon are pointed out here.

没有人愿意为了帮别人避雷而牺牲自己的学术前途，特别是在留下帖子作为证据的情况下。但是鼓励大家提供一些线索，博士生应该有分析有限信息并以此进行判断和筛选的能力。

最近有听闻：做GA的同学被GA supervisor逼退学，虽然GA supervisor不一定是未来的导师，但也对PHD的学业生涯有很大影响。
