Other students prefer to work independently. Which do you prefer? Use specific explanations and examples to support your answer.
Should students work in groups with other students when doing assignments and projects or independently? Different students have different choices. In my perspective, group study is better than independent study. My first reason is that in group study, students can consult each other. Whenever a student meets questions, he can ask his classmates in the group. Usually his question can be answered by his classmates quickly. Then he can proceed without questions. In this way, he can maintain high study efficiency. However, if a student studies alone, he cannot find anyone beside him to anwer his question. With the question lingering in his mind, he cannot progress smoothly. Furthermore, group study can more motivate students to work hard. If a student look around and see all his classmates are studying hard, he will have more pressure to work hard. Otherwise he will have the danger of lagging behind. On the other hand, a student alone does not have such a pressure. He maybe has more rest while studying and is more easily detracted by other interesting things like TV programs or internet programs. As a result, he will be much slower than students in a group to complete an assignment or project. Last but not least, group study can foster the valuable team spirit. Some assignment or project is better accomplished by a team. So all the group members have to cooperate with each other to achieve the common object. They have to learn to cooperate in this process, an experience indispensable for students' future development. By contrast, the student who studies alone will not have the chance to cooperate with other people and consequently is relatively weaker in team work. In sum, I prefer to study in a group instead of alone for the above reasons. Admittedly, group study has some disadvantages such as disturbance by other students, conflict in cooperation and etc. But generally speaking, group study is more beneficial to students than independent study. So I encourage students to take group study. |
