The question means: for each row and column there is exactly one 1, one 2, one 3. In other words, no column or row can have, lets say, 2,2,3 or 113, or 332. It can only be 1,2,3.

So according to statement 1, v+z=6, v must ve 3, z must also be 3, to get a total of 6. Since the second column in which v lies cannot have more than one 3, nor the third column in which z lies, we can conclude that r must be a 3.

Likewise, statement 2 tells us that s,t,u,x are either 1's or 2's. So r must be 3.
