The reading passage raises three competing theories for the possible usage of the Chaco structures in New Mexico in the American Southwest, yet none of them is regarded convincing in the eyes of the lecturer.

To begin with, the professor admits the seemingly residential role of the Chaco structures, when seen from the outside. But the inside condition disproves such function, because the number of fire places served for cooking is disproportionate to hundreds of people living there. This casts serious doubt on the role of traditional “apartment building”, as presented in the reading.

Another unsupported theory the professor points out is about the food storage. He questions it by mentioning that the excavation in this area unveiled neither traces of maze nor remains of maize containers, leaving the Chaco houses unreasonable to be used to store food. Oppositely, the writer is in supportive of the food storage usage based on their suitable size.

In addition, on the theory of ceremonies centers, the author cites the excavation of the mound, containing old material and broken pots, as an evidence of ceremony gatherings at that time. However, the lecturer believes other explanations conceivable to the mound, namely the trash of construction materials or trash of meals left by the construction workers, so it is not necessarily connected with the ceremony events.

In conclusion, compared with the author, the lecturer gives contradictory opinions concerning the possible functions of Chaco structures.

4月9日 110415 NA Which is more important: having more facilities or hiring more teachers?

In recent days, thanks to an increasing number of modern and advanced facilities, universities take a new look with easier access to latest resources and wonderful tools for researches. However, in my view, the role of facilities is no substitute to that of teachers in the classroom, and universities should invest on hiring more qualified teachers.

The integral responsibility of a teacher is not only to provide expertise in certain fields but also to set up realistic course goals and give ongoing feedback to his or her students. That's the reason why we attend schools——for masters rather than facilities. Even some universities, such as my alma mater , may equip with some hi-tech facilities containing autonomous learning system, but we students seldom make the best use of such "virtual teachers" due to the lack of motivation and guidance from someone as in a traditional classrooms. We won't keep ourselves back on track until the teacher shows up to announce an approaching quiz or test, a more effective incentive to get us focused again. Besides, a disappointed feedback on assignments or examines can unveil that either the teacher should revamp the courses or the students should revert our spirits.

Another shortcoming of more facilities yet less teachers is the miss of minds intercourse on campus. As is known to all, a qualified teacher is also a matchmaker who lights sparks of ideas and thoughts. Every time I watch the Positive Psychology , one of the Harvard open courses, I really admire the teaching methods Professor TalBen employed. It seems he is capable of seeing through every student's inner heart and taking control of the whole progress of the course by calling up the right one to speak at the very right time to elicit the final truth little by little. Like in an orchestra, without the conductor won't the performance be that exciting. It's the teacher who creates valuable opportunities for students to communicate, cooperate and even establish friendships at class. To that note, the best facilities are no match to excellent teachers.

Despite the fact that teachers are essential to effective education, the role of useful facilities can not be ignored. For example, the PowerPoint and Internet assist our teacher in presenting contents more vivid and resourceful. Also the laboratory equipments and advanced training systems are necessary for some professional studies. Thus the facilities can coexist alongside with the teachers in promoting our education standard.

In a nutshell, given the advantages inherent in the teachers in education, we can never substitute them by any advanced facility. Nevertheless, universities can set some useful facilities as complementary assist to more qualified teachers.

instructors似乎这个词用在这里更恰当呢~rather than facilities. Even some universities, such as my alma mater , may equip with some hi-tech facilities containing autonomous learning system, but we students seldom make the best use of such "virtual teachers" due to the lack of motivation and guidance from someone as in a traditional classrooms. We won't不写缩写~ keep ourselves back on track until the teacher shows up to announce an approaching quiz or test, a more effective incentive to get us focused again. Besides, a disappointed feedback on assignments or examines can unveil that either the teacher should revamp the courses or the students should revert our spirits.

To  Stones:

谢谢你!
的确,我前两段是写老师的好处,第三段承让设备的好处。前两个好处的分类不明显,所以让你觉得前两点一个意思了。

改正:

P1: A major responsibltity of a teacher is to create valuable opportunities for students to communicate, cooperate and even establish friendships at class . 。。。

P2: Besises providing expertise in certain fields , another integral responsibility of a teacher is to set up realistic course goals and give ongoing feedback to his or her students out of class. 。。。
