yale does it, too (and you pay for such fee). not sure about other schools. But it won't surprise me if other top schools choose to do so. However, Yale specifically says on its website that it only checks those who are eventually enrolled, which makes sense. What if you decide to go elsewhere? what kind of background check does CMU mention? security? employment? extracurricular? anyway, I cannot imagine the admission offer is non-binding unless you go through such check. |
