Time 2: 1:40
We don’t know everything about squirrels. A researcher, who published 2 two books on squirrels, gives some distinct characteristics of squirrels. 1, squirrels are everywhere, and we can escape squirrels only on polar area. 2, squirrels are beneficial to trees ,since they store seeds squarely, so that seeds have better chances to germinate. 3, squirrel are harmful to trees, since some of them eat seeds immediately or store them in places where seeds are unlikely to germinate.
Time 3: 1:52
Trees manage to get back on squirrels by making their seeds harder to achieve or making their seeds less nutritious. 4, squirrels have more complex capabilities of storing food, for example making mushroom jerky. 5, squirrels know how to distinguish different kinds of seeds and deal with them accordingly. All in all, the more you study squirrels, the more interesting things you will find about them.
Time 4: 1:35
So little we know about flying squirrel, no one seems to study them and they are only found in certain areas. Enormous efforts have been made to put them under federal protection. Recently, FWS finally decided to recommend flying squirrels for or against protection, by April 2016.
Time 5: 1:05
FWS finally moved into the next step along the process of applying for protection for flying squirrels, although it failed to do so long time ago. In the petition CBD gives several reasons to explain why flying squirrels are endangered. The next 18 months may be decisive to whether we can see these endangering little creatures or not in the future.
Time 6: 2:05
The recovery of a particular kind of squirrels is described and delisting the squirrel is not done yet. Everyone who concerns about the squirrel can comment on the delisting decision. If there is no unidentified dangers to the squirrel, it will be delisted for the endangered animal list. But FWS will keep tracking it for several years to make sure everything is ok for them.
Obstacle: 5:52
Non-native animals can be detrimental to native animals, several reasons and examples are given in the passage. And the protection measures and examples are given as well. |
