The Franklin bank met serious problems and verged on the bankruptcy 40 years ago. The Federal reserve faced a similar dilemma almost the same as they have in the case of Lehmman Brother in global financial crisis of 2008. The collapse of both banks would casue serious financial outcome in the global financial system. Federal reserve choose to save Franklin by lending money to it but choose to let LB bank collapse. It seems that critics would blame the decision no matter whatever it is, but both cases are good lessons that will continue to warn the banks and supervisor to keep an eye on the potential risks.
