yes. she has done lots of research and even watched the famous documentary, providing introduction of various chinese well-known food, to prepare for her article.
did she have the personal relationship with chinese food?
sure, since she was young, she lived in several chinese cities and had the chance to enjoy lots of delicious food.

can the vegetation enjoy chinese cusines ?
sure, although there are plenty of dishes cooked by pork, there are still a great deal of cusines made by vegetables.
The journalist loves to cook , but she donnot follow the recepit but just her heart. As the result, the dishes cooked by her won't taste good.
The author hates Americanized chinese fast food.
And she loves different dishes in different seasons

An artiest did a survey in New York to see if people would like to treat their personal information for a cookie. It turned out that the majority peole would love to do that. And the Artiest analysis that one possible reason is that people did not expect an artiest will threaten their information safty; the other reason may be they have no idea that the informaiton they just provided could help the haker to reach their bank account.

An example in S.J's new book: the printing press ignited a revolution in glassmaking which is one of innovations that make the modern world.
Brife introduction of "How we got to Now" and its remindful value to today's society.
Author's opinions:
1. While Silicon Valley is becoming dominant and producing innovations, it employs fewer workers as GM.
2. Few could predict what attempts would happend tomorrow.
Merits of J's book: make complicated subjects understandable.
Problems of J's book: Simplify too much that make the book read like Wikipedia, eg: microphone gave dictators a new tool to grab power.
Ironic points in the book: innovation is complicated.
