【39-17】 科技 Drug resistance
【Time 2】
The author talks about the antibiotic resistance and its serious consequence.

【Time 3】
The author introduces the principle of antibiotic resistance.

【Time 4】
There are four main components for combating these infections. And two budget items show how the agency hopes to improve its antibiotic-resistance efforts.

【Time 5】
Scientists have found an enzyme to block the effects of genetic mutations that drive the growth of cancer.

【Time 6】
Scientists feel optimistic to the targeted therapies, while the research sample is limited now.

Almost every turkey sample will have drug-resistance bacteria. The way to solve this problem is to cook the meat.

Time 2:   1:36.87
Many people in US develop antibiotic-resistance infection every year, and many patients die of this infection. CDC now have released its finding to address the issue.

Time 3:  1:56.97
Commercial antibiotics kill good bacteria that protect body from infection alongside bacteria that cause diseases; as a result, drug-resistance bacteria can flourish in human’s body and take over. Moreover, drug-resistance bacteria can exchange genes with other bacteria, spreading disesase in human’s body.
Overuse of antibiotic drugs both in human and in animals lead to drug-resistance ‘superbugs’.

Time 4    1:22.26
Four main components for combating these infections.

Time 5   1:52.12
The issue of drug-resistance has plagued the new generation of the so-called targeted cancer therapies.

Time 2  1”50

The report states that at least 23,000 of American who has antibiotic-resistant infections. It is still so hard for people to believe that the antibiotic-resistant infections are able to cause people to die. According to the findings from U.S Centers for Disease Control, they find out that patients have resistant infections are more likely to die, and survivors have longer hospital stays, delayed recuperation and long term disability. Right now, the report ranked 18 microorganisms associated with drug resistance and the health care for the drug resistance infections costs a lot every year.

Time 3 2”48

“Urgent threats” to human health include the serious diarrheal infection Clostridium difficile and “serious threats” are presented by microbes, which include multi drug -resistant. Those antibiotic-resistance are come when the commercial antibiotics kill good bacteria that protects the body from infection. Some drug-resistant bacteria are able to exchange genes with other bacteria. CDC scientists determine the overuse of antibiotics in both human bodies and animal can develop to the spread of drug-resistant “superbugs”. Moreover, they find out the most acute antibiotic resistance problems are happened in hospitals and nursing homes.

Time 4 2”10

CDC comes out four steps for states and communities, health providers, healthcare officials and patients to take: preventing infections and the spread of resistance; better tracking of resistant bacteria in order to understand the scope of the problem; improving the use of current antibiotics; and promoting the development of new antibiotics and better diagnostic tests for resistant bacteria. For the people in the hospitals, they should make sure they wash their hands before they touch anything. It is so hard to calculate the correct number for the antibiotic-resistance. The number from CDC is conservative.

Time 5 2”10

Oncologist Keith Flaherty and colleagues published a study that gave hope to patients with metastatic melanoma. However, this study gets warning from the government because this drug stops to work after months to years. The reason leads this happened is because drug-resistant. The experts in the Boston and the UCLA come out an experiment and they get few successful examples from that experiment. The scientists try to the new drugs which are drug combinations. This new way can help the medical targeted therapies to work longer and even maybe overcome resistance.

Time 6 2”17

Still many people do not believe the drug combinations can work out totally. However, the Flaherty believes that targeted therapies. He thinks those combinations no just come out randomly, they come out based on the same rational cell and molecular biology that lead to the development at first place. In addition, another expert, Roger Lo, insists on this is not any boring study. He agrees that those results can help scientists figure out more effective drug combinations.

T2 1.05
Antibiotic-resistant infection is becoming a growing concern. People are more likely to die because of the problem. It is possible the problem was underestimated. In addition, the healthcare cost related to this problem has been rising.
T3 1.31
The author lists serious threats of the antibiotic-resistant infection problems. The antibiotics prescribed in the US are sometimes unnecessary or inappropriate.
T4 1.13
The author lists the method for combating these infections and how it is integrated into US’s economical budgets.
T5 1.17
Drugs sometimes stopped working for various diseases, especially cancer, because human cells are resistant to the drugs. Researchers are making an effort figuring out if new drugs or combination of drugs could have lasting effect on diseases.
T6 1.08
It is promising to find combination of drugs that will have lasting effect on diseases. However, there are several issues need to be solved.
