THX~~放假结束~~做作业!T5T6完全晕死了。。果然看这种科技文还是差太远。。
SPEAKER Saltine-Sized Satellites Set For Space Saltine crackers 苏打饼干 Magnetometer n. 磁强计 [电磁] 磁力计 A graduated student from Cornell University found a project that send thousands of satellites into space, and these kinds of satellites are so small that no bigger than saltine crackers. The founder of the project said that the satellites won’t be very expensive and many people may have their own one in the future. ------------------------------------------ SPEED 掌管 5 00:01:55.76 00:14:34.81 掌管 4 00:02:51.30 00:12:39.05 掌管 3 00:03:04.27 00:09:47.75 掌管 2 00:02:49.68 00:06:43.48 掌管 1 00:03:53.79 00:03:53.79 See-through shrimp flex invisible muscle T2 This passage introduced a kind of shrimper that has the special way to camouflage. The shrimp is transparent enough to read through, but it’s not some frail, filmy thing. It’s packed with invisible muscle. The most part of the shrimpers are invisible so it’s very difficult to catch one, but scientist LB successful caught some and brought them back to the lab. When the scientist puts these shrimpers in the lab, they acted very funny. Their stomach is clear when they are hungry and the dotted things disappear. The scientist will try to find out why they are soon become visible after they die. ------------------------------------------ Quieter vibes for city spiders T3 This passage can be separated for three parts. In the first part, the author makes a general conclusion for the new scientist’s report and introduced some other examples. The spider always builds a net in the morning and eats it in the night, and during the day the spider stay still in its net to wait for its dinner. The question is that how does the net materials’ effect on the sensitivity of the spider for the vibration. (The scientists think that the man made material dampens a web’s natural vibration, and that could make it harder for spider to know that dinner is calling.) In the second part, the author shows the experiment of the scientist. Dr. Wu used 50 spiders in his experiment and these spiders’ spares in different areas of Taipei. In the last part, the scientists made his own conclusion that City traffic noise appeared to have no effect on a spider's awareness of its prey but where a spider anchored its web might. ----------------------------------------- Fungal fight club T4 Battles between mushrooms don't make a sound, but they're violent. Combat between fungal individuals is a bit like war between heaps of spaghetti. Fungi struggling for territory remind Buddy of a sports league. Some fungi can beat others while they are beat by another kind of fungus. Some other conditions such as heat or soggy conditions brings out the greatness in some competitors but dooms others. Climate change can affect who wins fights ----------------------------------------- Exotic particle packs a foursome of quarks T5 Scientist used to use two- and three-quark to predict the particles but currently they find some particles do not fit into this category so they tried to explain the mysterious nature of the particle have inadvertently discovered other odd particles. The rediscovery of an exotic particle provides the best evidence yet that quartets of quarks exist in a universe dominated by two- and three-quark matter, but now scientists are automatically proving that four-quark states exist ----------------------------------------- T6 Now a third experiment has chimed in with confirmation of Z(4430)’s existence. The unmistakable detection gives LHCb researchers confidence that Z(4430) is a single particle made up of four quarks Some theorists say that Zc(3900), announced last June (SN: 7/27/13, p. 9), is not a single particle. The next step, Skwarnicki says, is to figure out the internal composition of Z(4430) and its (possible) four-quark relatives. ------------------------------------------ OBSTACLE Mercury has a long history of exploding volcanoes |
