Your overall application package is typically comprised of six maincomponents: your undergraduate GPA, GMAT score, resume, essays, letters of recommendation,and interview.

GPA: Your undergraduate GPA is thecomponent over which you have the least control--it's in the past, good or bad. If yours is lower than theschool average, it's a good idea to address the issue in one of your essays ifapplicable. Now is not the time to make excuses, but a clear assessment of whathappened, what you learned from it, and what you would do differently now maywin you some maturity points

GMAT: The component that worriespeople most is undoubtedly the GMAT. This is for good reason--it's the one entirely objectivetool a program can use to compare candidates around the world, and is thushighly valued by admissions teams.

RESUME: Most schools want to see a polished resume, showcasingsolid work experience, and focused on the objective of MBA admissions.(For instance, it's not necessary to list every programming language youlearned.)

Your resume should be appealing, easyto scan, and up to date. It should fit on one page with consistent formatting.

Essays: Your essays are your chance to communicate who you are asa person to the admissions team, above and beyond stats and figures.First things first: remember to answer the question asked. Applicants oftenhave a specific story they want to tell, and they don't address the questionasked. Don't make this mistake! You'll also want to ensure that the essays areerror-free. Don't be afraid to enlist some grammar- and spelling-savvy friendsto proofread your essays.

Letters of Recommendation: You need to carefully choose yourrecommenders. Aunt Nancy may be a high-powered attorney, but if her interactions with you have happenedover holiday dinners instead of meetings in the conference room, she's not theideal recommender.

Interview: The most important thing you can do to ensure your interviewgoes well is to research the school. You want to communicate to the interviewerwhy his or her school is a good fit, how you can succeed there, and what kindof representative you would be for their brand. Make sure you look professional for your interview,whether it is occurring in person or via Skype. You'll want to be in a businesssuit with neutral colors, neat hair, and a smile!
