Well, I think you are just speculating as I do since you have not indicated that you are a Stanford GSB student or alumnus. However, the fact is that Stanford Business School employs a bidding system for interview opportunities, meaning that if you are not selected by the employers for first-round interview, you can use your points to bid a slot. And it’s also a fact that some top companies don’t even allow bidding. Anyways, if what you said is true and any Stanford student could interview with anyone s/he wants to, why the school needs to go through all the troubles to implement such a complicated system? The answer is simple. Not everyone at Stanford will be able to get the interview s/he wants. This is true at Stanford and it’s also true at many other business schools.
And I didn’t even mention the PE/VC industry; most of these firms don’t even come to campus for interview because they are bombarded with many, many, many resumes from HBS alone for a handful of positions each year.
