Time 7      4:58.36
After the crises the comfortable world of the strategy consultancies is about to be turned upside down. McKinsey’s success depends on an unimpeachable reputation for integrity and its ability to remain at the cutting edge of business. But now McKinsey clearly faces a more difficult market than it is used to.McKinsey has two huge assets and knows better than almost anyone how to exploit this peculiar mindset.

Mckinsey is being in difficult time.

Because the Enron case which the person involved was from Mckinsey (the firm), the scandal affect the image of the firm.

As a result of economy crisis, companies do not want to pay high price package for consulting firms.

With the challenges from other two top consulting firms, the firm is losing its talent.

However, the firm is still in the leading position with its talent and knowledge.

Thank you~~

Speaker:
Filter bubble: internet filter the information according to individual preference, in other words, it shows us what we want to know instead of what we need to know. The author is convincing us with the examples of Facebook, Google, Yahoo and so on.

Speaker: If you search for some information on line, you will get a result that is quite personalized. For example, using google or twitter you will see that different people get different answers. They personalize results for you according to your location, habit and so on. So we see what we want to know instead of what we need to know on the internet. It’s a big problem and we should recognize the junk food online. We should focus on the real problems in the society and take our responsibility.

Time2 02:03
Today, the definition of American dream has changed. It used to be more opportunities and financial gain for everyone, but now it means that most American want to retire comfortably. Now adults in American think that for their children there will be less opportunities and house ownership because of the poor economy.

Time3 01:14
Although adults worry for their next generation, young people don’t care. They believe that since they have gone through the great recession, they know better about debt and spending than their parents. Then there are some reasons why young people think in such a way.

Time4 02:02
This one is kind of difficult for me. I read it for three times and try to summarize the main idea.
In TIME’s recent report written by Rana Foroohar, she analyzed five major shortfalls in the “reformed” financial sector.
But there are more that she did not mention: manipulating figures, allowance of payday loans.
The causes of this neglect: congressional lobbying combined with a revolving door, with too many people in the administration too closely tied to the financial sector.
The treasury department are tardy and the results are not good. Eg: failure in transparency of the derivatives market and failure in curbing the anti-competitive practices of the credit industry.

Time5 02:10
The treasure department has not done enough in amending the bank systems. There are some improvements but not enough. We should ensure that the banks return to the corn mission—lending, especially to small and medium enterprises.

Time6 03:39
Beginning: McKinsey has suffered a succession of blows partly because of passing inside information to others, and so have other professional-services firms. So it is believed that the comfortable world of consulting is about to be turned upside down.
Content: In the past, McKinsey ‘s success depends on its reputation for integrity and its ability to cut edge of business. But now these two advantages fade away it also faces other problems: companies have access to more business expertise and there are low-priced competitors.
Ending: it also has two huge assets: talent and knowledge. There are companies relying on it so it seems that for M there is a change to recover in the future.
