Do you agree or disagree that the most important problems affecting our society today could be solved during your lifetime?

Admittedly, it is a great dream, that we human beings can solve the most important problems affecting our society today within my lifetime. However, I strongly doubt if it is feasible, in other words, I think it is just a dream, and we cannot make it come true in such a short time.

In a society filled with diversity, problems we face are also diverse, political problems, economical problems, and environmental problems, military problems, and etc. Neither the government nor the public have the ability to find all of those problems, and much far from solve them all. In fact, some awkward situation occurs, like when we want to solve a problem but then a new problem happens. For example, to close some industrial factories for protecting the environment may lead to the decline of economy and unemployment of local people. It’s a dilemma that we cannot deal with it in less than 100 years, let alone within lifetime.

Some people may argue that humans are born to solve problems, as long as we unit together, and do our best, use the whole intelligence of the world, we can finally solve the most important problems within lifetime. I want to note that we should notice the complexity of those problems, the reason they become important, is that they are easy to change over time, and we cannot find a principle to illustrate it, to solve it, just like virus. So, when we solve one part of it, the other part change, we have find new ways to solve, and then into an endless circle. And this can be combined with the first point to explain why it is still unfeasible for us do solve the most important problems within lifetime, with so many changes and diversity, problems can causes new problems at every moment, it is really ridiculous to say we can handle something with an amount we can never imagine.

Furthermore, the statement that we can solve the most important problems affecting our society today has disobeyed the basic principle of our society, that our life depend on the problems we face, thanks to the problems, we achieve ability to make our life better. So, it is unrealistic to say we can solve them all, our intelligence improved along with the problems we fixed. Imagine this, if we really make it, the most important problems affecting our society have been solved, all we need to do now is to eat, drink, enjoy the happy life without problems, then we have no difference with a dead man, it’s horrible, it’s a disaster. Our generation will be someone who know nothing, and then ruined by we ourselves.

Thus, realizing that the unpredictable difficulty of solving the most problems during lifetime, every one of us can conclude that it is just a dream. The diversity and complexity of problems will make the problems survive with us in every second, and we should also realize that problems are not always nightmare, they can impel us to move forward. With the difficulty to solve them, and the essential importance to us, I can strongly say that the most important problems affecting our society today couldn’t be solved during my lifetime.
