Young people should try several differentjobs before they decide which job or career they want to do in a long term.

At the beginningof choosing a job, many young people may encounter such a dilemma, that is, whetherto change different jobs before they decide to settle down to one specificcareer. Some people argue that it is neither necessary to change jobs frequentlynor a good way to leave an impression to the employer. Others, however, counterthat it provides the opportunity for young people to figure what they want topursuit and push their limitations to truly realize themselves. While many likea comfortable career path without too many changes, I prefer to change some jobsbefore young people can find out what they want to do in their future.

Firstand foremost, those who try different jobs are obviously more experienced atdifferent fields than a person who works at the same field all the time. As weall know, the more experience a worker has the better job he can do in hiscompany. For instance, my friend Lisa had an internship of human resourcebefore she applied for a job in the financial company. Her boss praised herbecause she give some good advise on improving the company’s human resourcesystem. Without the knowledge that she learnt from her internship, she couldhave never been extoled by her boss.

The second reason is that it is human nature to pursuit better jobs and bettersalary. And changing different jobs makes one realize what he can or cannot do.While some students were satisfied for their first just-so-so job andconsidered what would be their perfect job, others had already stepped outsidebravely to pursuit their dream work. Yu Minhong were not born to be a CEO ofthe New Orientation Inc. He used to be an English teacher before he startedthis company. If he stops trying other jobs and stays to be an English teacherforever, maybe there won’t be New Orientation Inc. at all. Through experiencingdifferent job positions, people can better understand their future career plan.

Finally,though trying different jobs before settling down to decide a definite jobseems reasonable to general persons, we shouldn’t jump to the conclusion toosoon. For those who have doubts about what they really want to do, it is goodfor them to experience as more jobs as possible in order to figure out whatthey really want. On the contrary, for people who had already found theirinterest and wouldn’t want to waste their precious time on job hunting or leavea bad impression on their boss, changing jobs frequently may not be a goodidea. It depends on the circumstances.

Tryingdifferent jobs before choosing an exclusive field can be disadvantageous sinceit may leave the boss a bad impression and be a waste of time. But it can stillbe valuable because it provides one various working experience that might behelpful, a great chance to better understand oneself. The advantages here arefar over-weighted the disadvantages. I therefore believe that young peopleshould try several different jobs before they decide which job or career theywant to do in a long term as long as they have energy and time.
