elroy的整理我看过，还抄了一遍。。。然后就是在他的框架下面自己做补充的。他的word版本比那个pdf版本的要好，因为pdf版本ms在排版的时候错了一些东西——不过不多，三处还是四处的样子

你的笔记也更新啦？那我去下下
这几天我就是每天用自己那个elroy框架笔记，结合着看曼哈顿原文，再看你的，再做题的。
要是你的早点出来就好了，我就抄你的了估计，哈哈！
因为中文版本，总结出来的人必然是已经都理解了的，但是只看中文，会很多地方不明就里，不清楚为什么，不清楚有些东西是怎么来的。

你还记不记得夹心结构？
xx,-ving,xx   这种结构常常会引起歧义。
一般歧义的是：  ...n,-ing, s+v+o  ，因为-ing可以做定语修饰前面的N，也可以做状语修饰后面的主语。
但是，这个句子就不存在， 那是因为 它由一个 although...., -ing..., s+V+o  -ing只能修饰前面的N，因为这两个要想修饰后面，那它们全是状语修饰，成分一样，如果要并列一起修饰后面的句子，那需要有一个and并列~  
好吧~估计你没有纠结我这个问题~哈哈~

就是我昨天纠结og13-104 Beatrix Potter, in her book illustrations, carefully coordinating them这道题才知道这个知识点的。但是，这个语法点真的存在吗？我觉得难道类似这样的题，不是通过modifier的重心、位置+语意+连接词就可以解决吗？还是说有一些题，还是弄明白这个概念比较好呢？

看到千行表里面有这么一段话，我表示自己没看懂它想表达什么：

prep08的语法笔记-关于夹心修饰 (by aeoluseros)：
所以歧义修饰，是因为引发了不同的理解，而并不是语法上是否会有不同的修饰，所谓夹心修饰也是这个原则。很多人对“夹心修饰”都有过一个误解，认为S, v-ing, V. + O.结构中，v-ing既可以往前修饰S，也可以往后修饰V就是夹心，而实际上夹心并不是“可以往前修饰S，也可以往后修饰V” 。在S, v-ing, V. + O.这样的表达中，v-ing约定俗成只伴随修饰动词，（重点！！）见下例：
prep 2-104 The yield per acre of coffee berries varies enormously, because a single tree, depending on its size and on climate and altitude, is able to produce enough berries to make between one and twelve pounds of dried beans a year.
这个句子里depending不能改为dependent，因为depending和dependent的区别在于，前者伴随修饰谓语动词is able to produce，后者则是修饰名词single tree，会造成逻辑上不对 —— “一棵树依靠它的size”。

我也查了很久的夹心结构，但是觉得大家的解释都有点含糊。
不过通过比较OG和Prep里的正确答案，我得出这样一个结论：
..n,-ing, v+o  这里不会有歧义。  反正就是答案这样都是对的。至于-ing确切做ADJ呢还是状语，大家各自争论也没有个定数，就懒得管了。反正我们选对答案就是了。
一般错误的答案：
..n,-ing, S+V+O.   这里构成夹心结构。
但是，昨天那道题让我又想到了，
当 although ..n, -ing, s+v+o 这种结构出现时， 其实-ing就是修饰前面的N的，不会有歧义。
所以，在以后看这个结构的时候， 以上面两个总结为大纲，再想想...n,s+v+o 前面的结构是不是做状语呢，如果是的话，-ing就不会有歧义，做句尾名词的修饰语。  

然后我突然理解了manhattan原来里面的一句话： 修饰语，修饰语，主谓宾。 这个结构一定是错误的！
我原来一直就是死记的。突然明白了。
就像although这样的结构，两个修饰语成分一样，要有AND表并列连接才对。

首先，我觉得从正确句子来看，n,ing,v+o都是做的状语

第二个，关于为什么两个很长的modifiers并列修饰主句主语（同时在前/同时在后）必然是错的
我是这么理解的
1、和你一样，我认为既然是两个并列成分，用comma连接就不是很合理
2、如果两个modifier同时出现，并且合理的话，其中一个应该是可以删去的non-essential modifier，又或者是修饰另外一个modifier的，也就是说，两个modifier的地位应该是不一样的

你觉得我这样理解对么？

第三个，我对两个正确句子有疑问

（对此，http://forum.chasedream.com/thread-764753-1-1.html这边有个解释是说，他认为circling修饰的是80 massive planets，两个逗号中间是NE，所以circling本身其实应该是紧贴着planets的，我觉得这个解释是对的。但...依然没有解答到我关于上两个句子的问题，orz）

我记得一般认为，comma+ving，修饰的是前面的主句主语的action
不加comma的ving，倾向于修饰紧邻的noun
但这两个句子里，一个是修饰的buffer，一个修饰的是traits
这里是有什么exceptional rules吗？
