I choose (E). Why? The key lies in "people lack sufficient free time." I have to know whether the respondents of that survey are people lack sufficient free time before making an judgement.

It is important to realize, at first, that the time after your work is a free time. For example, from 7pm to 11pm.

If (E) is right: respondents are increasingly using computer during their work. Their time spent on computer INCREASED, but after work, they use their sufficient free time to watch television. Their time spent on TV remains NO CHANGE, always 7pm to 11pm. --> this is people don't lack sufficient free time.

If (E) is no: respondents are increasingly using computer after their work. Their time spent on computer INCREASED, but they have to sacrifice some of their free time to television now, therefore the time spent on TV DECREASED. (for example, 7pm to 9pm using computer, and 9pm to 11pm watching TV) --> this is people lack sufficient free time.

Therefore, answer (E) helps us to evaluate the author's argument.

D.
Whether a large majority of the computer owners in the
survey reported spending increasing amounts of time per week using computers

不是正好对应了题目中的条件“in a recent mail survey
concerning media use, a very large majority of respondents who report
increasing time spent per week using computer report no change in time spent
watching television” 中的“increasing time spent per week” 么?

OPEN TO DISCUSS!!
