很明显，如果early work是指后面说得records的话，那么Blassingame的work也是在这些records上面进行的，这些records只有对奴隶主还是奴隶之分，没有先后之分，所以，很明显，early work指的是和Blassingame相对应的前人的study，就是说，完全不需要用that of来重复

does not mean the record belongs to the study. so it can't be said the record is "of the study".  So it can't be parallel with "that of earlier works".

D是正确的。A中的that有歧义，到底指代什么？是 innovative study还是study?study of early works其实是没有必要并且有歧义的，都已经study了，还works??gmat从来没有这么复杂的表达。这题讨论了很久，可是应该答案很简单明确。

以前一直选D的，刚刚看一个网友考完试说选A，我怀疑地再看看原体，现在觉得选A了。其实moumou对于自传啊，记忆录啊，这些关于奴隶的作品的研究理应对应that of the work，如果只是work的话，那就是将study与它的客体进行比较了
