4/14 People do not respect their teachers as much as in the past.
Teacher is one of the respectable occupations in the society. But gradually, it is commonly believed that people, especially students, do not respect their teacher as much as in the past. Personally, I think people do respect their teacher as much as in the past, but they may show the respect in a different way.
First and foremost, as one of the most famous philosopher says, Plato is dear to me, but dearer still is truth. Due to the fast change of the time and the society, there is a generation gap between the olds and the youngs. Student and teacher do have different opinions in some fields such as academic, concept or current affair. Putting forward different views and suggestions does not completely equal to the disrespect of the teacher. A responsible person would not be opinionated. From the exchange of the different opinion, both student and teacher could acquire new knowledge and different concept. This kind of communication is a significant way to show ones respect in the consideration of seeking for truth.
Secondly, the relationship between student and teacher is more like a friendship than before. As the development of the education, the teacher is not only an importer of knowledge, but also a tutor of students' life. A teacher may teach many different kinds of students every year, so he or she could offer an effective and accessible solution for the student who have trouble in study or live. As time passes, the student and teacher would be more closer and become friends. When I was in high school, I build up a friendship between my Chinese Literature teacher. I respect her very much because she is knowledgeable and approachable. I always asked her about question in class at the beginning, but then we found we had many hobbies in common. Finally we became friends and talked about many things in study and life after class.
As what has been discussed above, it is undenying that people respect teachers as before. From one perspective, one might have learned knowledge of a special field earlier the other. From another perspective, student and teacher are more like friends. It is unconvincing that students was not respecting their teachers just because the way of showing respect changed.
