Hi my friend, and thanks for your query! The first thing you need to know is that MSF programs are currently very popular and also very competitive. If you want to get into the top programs, you need to have a solid background in both academics and work-related experience. Since your GPA is less than competitive, I’d highly recommend you work on increasing your GMAT score. A great GMAT score is a way to prove that you have high academic potential. Since your undergraduate degree is not in finance, your essays will be crucial because they need to clearly articulate the vision for your future as well as your career plans. Specifically, you’ll need to address why you want to change your major, and what you will do with a finance education in the future.

Based off your current background, I’d suggest you check out Bentley University, Florida State University, IIT, and University of Michigan-Dearborn. These should definitely be in your range. Let me know if I can be of further assistance!

Hi my friend, thanks for your follow up question. Are you askingabout books on general finance topics or textbooks? There is no need to readtextbooks at this point because that’s what you’ll be doing during your studyin those programs. Of course it would be helpful if you have already read somebooks on current finance, since it keeps you sharp on the topic. The key towriting great essays is not in how many books you’ve read, it’s more about how youpresent your own experiences and background. It’s better to show the admissionscommittee that you’ve had great experiences, and also that you can clearlyarticulate your vision for the future as well as your career plans. The Adcomwants to get a sense of you as a person, and it helps to elaborate on your internships, academic work, and other activities, rather than just rattling off some impersonalfacts from a finance book.
This is especially important since you want change your major fromengineering to finance. You need to clearly explain your motivations and careerplan, and what advantages/qualities you have that will help you succeed in thefuture. This should be the focus of your essays. Hope this helps!
