I have learned agreat advantage of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology in the BGS U.A keen curiosity on Bio-energy of microorganisms spurs me to pursue my graduateprogram in the Department of Biological Sciences Particularly, Dr. X’s researches about Genetic modification of cellulases to improve the enzymecatalytic efficiency, thermostability, and substrate specificity orstereoselectivity match my goal that using by-products of agriculture toproduce the renewable forms of energy of hydro in my country. A sharp enthusiasmon biology retrieves from my living in my hometown. I was born at a village andit gave me more opportunities to touch the nature, animals, plants, fungi andso on. As time goes by, I found an unavailable problem in my country: after aseason of harvesting crops, so much of by-products, for example straws, took agreat effect on agriculture, ecology and environment. For the difficulty todissolve them naturally, the first option of people was burning them. As aconsequence, it took a series influences: environment pollutions, energy waste,and the traffic accidents near the site of burning. Although certaindepartments applied many kinds of methods, the root of problem hasn’t beeneradicated yet. So I believe that joining in Dr. X’s research utilizinggenetic tools to facilitate the hydrolysis of cellulose, which becomes usefulas energy source once it is broken down into soluble cellobiose and glucose isa perfect choice for me to get an available way to solve the problem in my homeland and help people properly use the by-products to produce high efficientfuel. I majored inBiotechnology in my undergraduate program. From a freshman to a senior, I havebeen under teaching of Prof. Guo, and have participated in three mainprojects of my advisor; writing four pieces of articles (see details in my CV).In these programs I have gotten the most fundamental experiment skills. I alsoreceived the teaching of Prof. Jiang, Dr. Lu during myundergraduate program. From Prof. Jiang, I have learned a great deal ofplant molecular biology and genetic engineering; and from Dr. Lu, I gotmany Halophiles salt tolerance mechanism of genetics research and extrememicrobial bio-active substances and its functional genes research. I havelistened to the reports about crop translation and application Genomics and crop germplasm resources research based on the genomics of Dr. Ma, analumnus of my school and associate Prof. of Purdue University many times. As aresult, it enhanced my interest in the characterized and cloning of gene, andfirmed my belief to study aboard. To be honest, it’sso hard for me to insist my dream. Although I did well in my professional courses,and I got agreeable score at each course, I was not good at English. I dreamedto go aboard and expand my study, but I was scared. Thanks to my teachers andclassmates who gave me great impulse, I decided to stick to my goal. I cannotforget my first TOEFL score, 50, and four times on TOEFL. Myriad ofdifficulties and ridicules full of my road, but I still believed that behindall of these is my success. Finally, I get this precious chance to apply mygraduate program, and I also believe that a sticker is a victor. China is a large agricultural and industrialnation. In the development of recent years, so many problems have emerged, suchas surplus of agricultural by-products, pollution of industrial heavy mentaland over exploiting fossil fuel and so forth. As a result, after my studyaboard, I hope to go back to my motherland, and deal with such problems asabove, and based on it, develop the new biological energy, reducing the consumeof fossil fuel, increasing the availability of biological resources, so that Ican contribute to the construction of my homeland in the feature. |
