Daily RC-22_2013-03-13
It's my birthday today. Happy birthday to myself... Work harder and you'll get more. SPEED 1. 2'58" [329]Big internet companies are growing fast. Apple with its online iTune store; Google being the most popular search engine and online advertiser; Amzon as the biggest digital books seller; Facebook with biggest group of users could be considered the third largest country in the world. But while they bring free communication and democracy? to all users, they also hook the healthy competition. Policy regulators have tried to talk to Google about ???... Like years ago Microsoft fought for his world wide used computer operation system.
2. 2'05" + 2"01" [300] Didn't grab the main idea... Three concerns of the threats from the biggest: 1. They hold almost the full market of their field, though competitors have invested tons of money into their rivals. 2. They're trying to hold consumers on their own platforms, like Apple's building ?-wall to keep consumers. 3. They're investing other business before their rivals could be a threat. Now watchdogs are investigating the online search? and e-book contributors (Apple is now under investigation about publisher and related...)
3. 3'12" + 1'40" [360] Some critics think what the watchdogs're doing is weak and they biggest should be chopped into two. A scholar even suggested Google and Apple to be divided into content provider, hardware producer and info exchanger??(say online cloud service) But the butchery would be bringing more harm than good: now consumers can switch to another provider with dramatically dropped cost as broadband era... The competition is getting severe: Android vs Apple, Bing,.. vs Google, Google+ vs FB, smaller firms as Twitter now also joined. So if the biggest wanna survive, they better not to be big over the head?... (meaning too big to be the obvious target??)
4. 2'15" [338] Buffet has put lots of economic theories into plain English. Recently he suggested to increase the capital gain tax, which's kept lower than personal income tax in order to encourage tax. People consider the capital income tax, which how much percentage the government will take of their gains, as a main factor of a new investment. If it's too high, they'd rather put the money into their saving account. But Buffet claims that the low capital gain tax would be unfair to labor gain, whose income tax is higher.
5. 2'37" [411] Economist JB posted another opinion, saying that no evidence has suggested higher capital tax will surely bring less investment and lead less employment, etc. Other opinion: higher capital gain tax will cause corporations get less investment money from the share market, as the cost of investment will be higher. In some situation, the goods or gain is double taxed. Then people will prefer to buy luxuries and spend money on expensive goods.. 哎~ 没太读明白肿么回事。。。
OBSTACLE 6'32" [823]
Main Idea:Digital card program named Belly helps small business to keep customers loyalty, and it threats the traditional punchcard. Attitude:
Structure: Example of a small business using the program of Belly: how the merchant started to use Belly and how Belly works in his stores to give customers award with their consuming points. Detailed described the Belly program used in many shops. How the founders started the Belly idea and the development history. Future plans for Belly. Some shops have special rewards to very high points holders: basically the current usage of the Belly card. (Did the author mention analysis customers behavior, like what they like to buy and timing, through the Belly app? But seems it's not the most important point in that article.) |
