我的理解：

1.

当一个装配工(装配机器，机器人)开始掌握生产高级部件的技术，由此导致的对它(本身)资源的需求可能会危机它成功地把这些部件组装成产品的能力。

Just like the case that a computer may be bogged down when you have it run too many programs since the computer's resources may  be used up. In the above sentence, the assemler was NOT in charge of producing advanced components. Now it has this more demanding new task, it may not have enough resources to handle it.

1. I think 可以这样理解：

以前，公司买 parts (components), assembler 把 parts 装配成产品 (product)，没问题。

现在，公司决定自己生产 parts，重任落在assembler的肩上。但这assembler 的技术过时，或者硬件不够，这种条件下

既要produce parts有要assemble parts into products ，可能应付不了。

打个比方，我的旧电脑运行简单的程序还凑合，但无法运行最新游戏，因为最新游戏需要512MB内存，我的旧电脑只有可怜的64MB内存。The demand on the recourses (demand on the memory in this case) is not met.
