7) Some people believe that government funding of the arts is necessary to ensure that the arts can flourish and be available to all people. Others believe that government funding of the arts threatens the integrity of the arts.
Write a response in which you discuss which view more closely aligns with your own position and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should address both of the views presented.

————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

There is no doubt that arts play anessential role in our society. When it comes to the further development ofarts, some people think that the government funding will take a negative effecton arts. On the contrary, others are going to accept that the governmentfunding is necessary for arts. As far as I am concerned, though the former viewis reasonable to some extent, the later view is more persuasive.

To begin with, it is widely believed thatarts should be independent of the politics. However, sometimes governmentfunding is indispensable, which brings about a series of passive effects. Forinstance, the local officials require the artists to praise their contributionsto the society through the condition that they can decide the financial supportof arts. There is no denying that our arts will become a tool for privateinterests rather than serve for the general public. To some extent, it is hightime for the departments concerned took measures to avoid the negative effects.

Nevertheless, we should focus on thepositive effects brought by the government funding. As we know, many youngartists devote their time and energy to their careers with very low income. Toencourage them, it is reasonable for the government spare no effort to improvetheir living conditions and help them to contribute to our society. No one candeny the importance of the government funding nor could they afford the disappearanceof the public expenditure on the arts.

Moreover, the government funding is indispensablefor the arts because there is a close relationship between the arts andgovernment funding. It is universally known that the more funding distributedto the arts, the more benefits will be enjoyed by the general public. In somedeveloping countries where the funding of the arts is so tight because of the budgetconstraints of the governments, what can we expect from the spiritual life ofthe general public? The answer is obvious.

To some up, although the government fundingthreatens the independence and integrity of the arts, we should focus on thepositive factors. From what has been discussed above, the advantages of thefunding outweigh the disadvantage, which is why the government funding isnecessary. Furthermore, the arts will take a long and beneficial role in thedevelopment of our society with the passive effects are controlled.
