*** Ph.D. Assistantships/Fellowships in Environmental Fluid Mechanics at the University at Buffalo, the State University of New York ***

This PhD fellowship resides in experimental fluid mechanics, with a focus on the influence of hydrodynamics on biological and ecological systems. This work will help facilitate the management of our natural waterways through an understanding of the complex relationships between man-made structures, fluid mechanics, and the plant and animal communities that inhabit those natural waterways.

Ph.D. assistantships/fellowships are available for self-motivated individuals to conduct innovative and high-impact research in the Department of Civil, Structural, and Environmental Engineering at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York (http://www.civil.buffalo.edu/).  Research topics may include: environmental fluid mechanics; biological, ecological, chemical, and environmental flow applications; biological sediment transport; stratified flow through porous objects; aquatic canopy flow; limnology and physical oceanography; flow through wetland vegetation; hydrodynamic impacts on animal navigation; and relationship between fluid mechanics, biological/ecological systems, and man-made flow structures.

Successful candidates can build on previous studies and/or explore new frontiers of research. They will also have opportunities to interact with leaders in these fields through the Great Lakes program or the graduate program in Evolution, Ecology and Behavior.
