In this argument, some people thinks that a corporation should always take the responsibility of promoting the well-being of the societies and environments, while, others believe that the only goal of the corporation is to chase money as much as it can. According to my own observations and experiences, I think, this two things are in the same significance for a company or organization. Knowing how to strike a balance between the two things will be a necessary lesson for every corporation.
Pursuing the interests and profits will always be the fundamental goal of one corporations, without which might make the existence of the corporations meaningless. It is through chasing the money can one company attract more skillful and experienced persons to join the organization, thus making the company strong enough to survive on the cruel world. If one take the responsibility of promoting the well-being of the society at the expense of curtailing its own profits, it will be unreasonable. Since, only when an company be stable and strong can it attain the ability of contributing to the society and environment where it survives. It is only after Bill Gates gaining money from establishing the Microsoft, can he raise a charity donating so much money for those people suffering from starvations and poverties.
However, to promote the well-being of the society and environment where one corporation survive is the prerequisite of a long-term prosperity of one corporation. Donating money and promoting the well-being will not only good for the locals but also for the company itself. With a comfortable local environment and healthy competing market, company will make more profits and money. Those who only aim at making money will ultimately lost in the snail made by its own. Let us take the BP and Chevron company as an example, BP is a ambitious company whose goal is only making more money, lacking the fundamental responsibility for the environment. However, it finally lost a great deal of money in the Mexican gull spill accident. On the contrary, Chevron is a company keen on the public business and helping local government clean up the sea where its ships might discharge some oil. It is welcomed and supported by the people, and earn a lot of money from them.
In sum, the two things are not exactly contradictory. Knowing how to strike a balance between the profits and public businesses will a necessary course for every company. At least, interest is always the major subject every person will chase for, for people always controlled by the animalistic desire innate from human nature. Either promoting the well-being of society or chasing for more money will gain the interest for the company, one just have to weigh which will bring more at specific situation.
