89) Claim: Many problems of modern society cannot be solved by laws and the legal system.

Reason: Laws cannot change what is in people's hearts or minds.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim and the reason on which that claim is based.







Nowadays, our society becomes more complex than before and problem and conflict comes one after another.To deal with these problem, the legal system come up to our society. Though we have to admitted that not all the conflicts and problems could be resolved by laws, the legal system has already solved a lot of problems and helped our society on a great extent.



Admittedly, some problems in our society could not be settled by the legal system.The law, which is used as a tool to regulate the behaviors of people, is a regulation and it does not have the ability to change people's heart or mind.Though the law is able to set rules of what a person should do and should never do, it is less likely to guide one's mind directly.That is to say, if a person means to do something illegal, the legal system could do less with turn this person into well behavior.What it can do is to punish this person after the illegal things happened.Since this bad thing has already happened, it does cause harm to our society.The law is more likely to do something after the illegal things happened.Since the law less likely to act directly to the ill mind and it has less ability to cut the bad behavior on its origin, there are a some problems that the law could not resolve.



However, law could not change people's heart and mind never means that the legal system could not solve the problems of our society.The law, as its origin, shows the equity of the society.It is one of the most valuable society instruments which exhibits the development of our society and human glory.When we stand in front of the Law of the Twelve Table, we must admire the great civilization of Rome Empire.With the law, those in rich and power could never do every thing as they like, but their behavior is regulated by the law. Today, the law has already done a lot for settle the problems in our society.It not only shows a standard of good and ill behavior, but also work as an alarm of those wrong doing.Since the law is there, the person with ill will may never dare to commit crime because this person is fare of the punishment of the law.What is more, the legal system has done a lot for settle the conflicts of our society.For example, two companies are get into trouble of a business conflict, they do not agree with the distribution of the profit.Without the law, this conflict may carry on for years since it is extremely hard for them to come up with a solution which each company agree.But with the legal system, these two companies are able to get a relatively fair distribution.



Moreover, law develops itself.That means the law is developing and it is able to serve our society better.We are able to set up new rules and new precedent so that we can deal with the new problems in our society.Besides, though the law is less likely to have a direct effect on people’s mind, its image of alarm of punishment to the wrong behavior does cut out a lot of illegal crime.Our society is able to make use of this alarm image and decline the number of crime.With the development of the law, it is more likely to set a standard of fair of our society.Thus, the legal system not only resolve the problems of our society, but also it has a effort on preventing bad behavior.



To sum up, though the law is less likely to change people's mind directly, it has great effort on solving problems of our society.Thus, we are encouraged to make good use of the law and help its development.In that way, the legal system is able to resolve more problems in our society.
