关于TPO15的一个问题

TPO15里面有篇阅读是讲mass extinction的。
第一题有些不明白，希望能有高人指点一下！非常感谢各位战友~

Paragraph 1: Cases in which many species become extinct within a geologically short interval of time are called mass extinctions. There was one such event at the end of the Cretaceous period (around 70 million years ago). There was another, even larger, mass extinction at the end of the Permian period (around 250 million years ago). The Permian event has attracted much less attention than other mass extinctions because mostly unfamiliar species perished at that time.

○They began during the Cretaceous period.

TPO给的答案是C，我不明白为什么B不对，其实我觉得BC两个都是对的。难道这种support题也是inference的一种么？？可是我查了一下，应该不算推断呀？那B明显正确，为什么不选呢？？

亲是什么意思呢？？
They？是说这个mass extinctions是复数，是泛指所有的的么？我不是单独指发生在Cretaceous period时期的那个？？
那C选项又没什么对呢？我一直以为C是根据 Permian period 的那句话infer出来的呢。即“The Permian event has attracted much less attention than other mass extinctions because mostly unfamiliar species perished at that time."
