61. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Parents or other adult relatives should make important decisions for their older (15 to 18 year- old) teenage children. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
Although some people think that older teenagers should make important decisions by themselves, and their parents should defer to what older teenagers decided, I am convinced that parents or other adult relatives should make important decisions for their older teenage children. I will elaborate my views as follows.
The most pertinent reason for my view is that although older teenagers have their own opinion, they have not mature enough to make proper decisions for their future. On the one hand, older teenagers lack of deep consideration because of the deficiency of life experiences . On the other hand, sometimes they can hardly know themselves clearly. They have passion to do something, but maybe regret to make such a decision after period of time.
The second reason that can not be ignored is that older teenagers may think they are better decision makers than they really are. Compare with making decisions by the spur of the moment, choosing an alternative with the guidance of parents or adult relatives, who care about teenagers mostly and understand their children best, may avoid to getting into some troubles, thus make an desirable impact on the future career of the teenagers.
The last but not least, as dependent chileren, teenagers need the financial support from their parents. Such as whether study abroad or stay in native country, whether study in public campus or in private school. Parents have to make decision for their older teenage children.
In conclusion, based on the three reasons that I presented above, parents or adult relatives should make important decisions for their older teenage children. It will play a favorable role in teenagers’ future.
