偶年轻时也曾像你那样迷惘过，现在倾向于选E。现在语法越来越倾向于整体的逻辑意思。本句的意思应该是收8000的学校是收16000的学校的三倍。这个没问题吧。如果选D，就变成了：Three times as many institutions charge 8000 dollars as charge 16000 dollars.  意思显然不对，就像通常所说的不能“自己和自己比”是一个道理

正确表达应该是： Three times as many institutions charge 8000 dollars as those charging 16000 dollars. 即有些学校收8000，而另外一些学校收16000。

偶觉得此题最大的问题是前后的逻辑主语不一致，这在语法中属于“一票否决权”，所以不能省，即OG解释通常所说的是否（understood），correctiveness的错误，而charging你如果要算，也顶多算个effectiveness，而且其实根本就没有错，因为用分词形式正好说明了它的动词特征（收费），避免产生当作名词的歧义（费用）

这些题目出的确实叹为观止，SIGH！希望偶能讲明白了。

比较的是institutions，如果选D选项的话，比较的对象变成了charge，有人说从句主语可省，但是这里的从句主语跟主句主语是不一样的，正是比较的对象，一个是institutions charging under 8000，一个是institutions charging over 16000，所以我觉得those不能省

charging应该是不是跟charge对称，而是institutions的修饰吧，those跟institutions并列比较

D  我觉得是主语的比较，而且有宾语存在，必须要补出动词避免歧义 是比谁charge的多，要是e还原了就是 A charge tuition more than 3 times as many as Those(institution) ,比较对象就不对，得补出谓语

另外希望大家能注意一下楼主给的og例子，比较一下，有些同学支持 E说those不能省因为前后tuition不一样，但看看og人例子里面前后的people指代就一样么？我觉得也不一样，而且也不太好找到完全一样的例子，以为完全一样还有什么好比较的...如果真有的话期待有心人帖上来个例子，感激不尽啊

又看了一下讨论，很多问题纠结在比较名词和比较动词之间，说一下自己的看法。

其实不存在比较动词的情况，都是比较名词

例子

you eat more apples than i do

you eat more apples than pears

第一个估计就是一些同学认为的比较动作，其实俺觉得应该是比较主语（此题中也一样，不是比较charge,而是比较两种不同的institution谁charge的多）

第二个事比较宾语

可见比较主语而宾语又存在的时候要补出谓语避免主语和谓语比较的歧义，此题也正是如此，E的话就成了tuition和intitution得比较了

我坚定的选D~

起初选择D。但是狂看几次之后觉得E对。

我把句子简化成这样：

three times as A charge B under 8000 as......

其中，A for institutions.

从句子来看，as后应该是加those,以回应A

而从句子意思上看，应该是说，收费低于8000的机构是高于16000的机构的三倍

应该是机构数量的对比

这么着我觉得之所以用charging而不是charge也许是因为charging在此处做修饰，修饰那些收费高于16000的机构

不知道这么说是否应该

个人理解 句中比的是不同收费标准学校的数量而 independent institutions 并不是什么特指的under8000的那部分学校

因为of...under....这一结构只是在其中心词后起到一个修饰的作用 和后面的of ...over....的位置一样

我认为第二个of之所以在剧中没有体现 正是说明那个了unnder和over在结构上是平行的 当然E中补出those of也没有原则上的比较不一致的错误 只是主体相同 为什么要重复一下呢

应该把这种主语相同的比较结构和那种主语本身不同句子区分开 比如说有一道题比的是economy in the  Britain 和that in France  

这和本题结构虽然形式相似（区别不应该在of和in这两个词上）但性质不同 under和over是学校学费的附属 学校学费才是比较的主体 而economy才是意思上的附属 英国的和法国的才是比较的主题

以下是楼主的了另一题 道理相同
