Generally speaking, score is just like a ruler used to measure a student’s ability of studying at school. In this situation, students want to get great scores in tests. But this may bring about some problems. As far as I am concerned, although scores are important in schools, fighting for a high score would limit the quality of education.
First I should stress on the fact that to study hard for a great score is a good thing. When someone studies under pressure, he would feel full of energy to do it. Under competition, students will put much attention on study, in order not to be caught up with by students behind him, and they are willing to chase those students who are in front of them. So competition makes students become better. If every student ignores the importance of scores, there will be no strength to push them to study. Then the quality of education must be bad.
However, if students regard scores as the most important things in their study lives, and they put all the efforts on the study, it will be bad, either. First, pay too much attention to the study may make students ignore some other important things. When they addict to the competition, friendship may be looked down by them. When student A is caught up by B, A may be jealous at B. Then the relationship between these two may become worse. What’s more, some students who always get great scores in the tests are very bad at doing some manufactures. If so, only getting a high score may seem not of great use on the students.
What’s worse, some students who want to get high scores may do some things which are abandoned in schools. For example, after a test, a good student feels bad in the exam before, and he is willing to remind his faults in his paper. Then with this idea, it is possible for him to do something that does not obey the rules. So from this point we could see it is not a good thing to pay too much attention on the study.
Furthermore, I want to say that score is not the only the ruler to measure the students’ study. For example, the famous scientist, Einstein, did badly at math when he was young. However, finally he became the world’s famous physicist. From this we could conclude that when someone does badly in the exam, it is incorrect to regard him as a bad student. He may have some other talents which have not been found.
From all the arguments issued above, we could draw a conclusion that score is a perimeter used to measure the general ability in students’ daily education, but surly it is not the only tool which can be used to measure a student’s ability. So if one pay much attention to the high scores, it will do harm to him.
