“In this age of intensive media coverage, it is no longer possible for a society to regard any woman or man as a hero. The reputation of anyone who is subjected to media scrutiny will eventually be diminished.”
Generally speaking, I strongly agree that there is no longer for a society to regard an individual as a hero because of the media scrutiny, for the most important reason is that anyone who with little fame will be diminished by them. From the public to the mass media are all intend to explore the scandal of any so-called hero and destroy their reputation forever.
To the beginning, I cling to the belief that the common public is all interested in seeing the hero or any famous people go to the road to failure and scandal which can be easily vindicated through the fact that the gossip of the illustrious is always the hottest news among the street. While, I do acknowledge the truce which is people need heroes and idol who can build, enlighten and inspire common live's life. It is the human nature, however, there are no more exciting things for people to see the hero, or anyone successes, fell from their glory stage. The information about the misfortunes and misdeeds of the heroic figure is far more compelling than that about the virtues and achievements. Consider that no one is perfect. It will be an instinct for people to seek the drawback and ill fame of the hero or other individual who extremely prevalent or success.
And here is the media coming. The modern mass media provided an extensive board for information, formal or informal, to exhibit and communicate which makes people to a large extent easier to acquire new things about an object, including a hero, if they want. From the intrinsic quality, the media corporations are normally commercial organization which intends to make as more profit as they can. To attain this purpose, the mass media will absolutely scrutinize an individual with even a few good reputation and do all they can to diminish thier fame and show to the public who is eagerly to know some scandal about eminent person. Thus, as long as being subject to media scrutiny, the reputation of anyone, hero or otherwise, will be diminished and forever tarnished. Especially people rely on such media to provide them with informations are lacking some ability of critical and analyze thinking to the truth beyond the superficial words.
To sum up, from the aspect of instinct and nature of both media and public, it is seemly quilt logical to discredit the reputation of a figure with little fame and never tired with doing so. It takes the conclusion to us that as long as the public are still demanding the story and information that destroy reputation and the media is encouraged by profit as usual. The media will continue to diminish any individual who becomes a subject to them. |
