L38 有此句： It is true, as Bailyn claims, that high culture in the colonies never matched that in England.可见作者的确同意Bailyn关于殖民地文化及不上英格兰文化的看法，虽然后句中有BUT做转折，指出Bailyn的看法低估了殖民地文化，但并不否认前句的事实。因此A项对。

  (D) The southern
                        colonies were greatly influenced by the high culture of New England.

文中并没有提到南部殖民地（southern colonies)，而是说New England对整个北美的影响，因此D项错。

请注意原文的措辞:

 It is true, as Bailyn claims, that high culture in the colonies never matched that in England.But what of seventeenth-century New England, where the settlers created effective laws, built a distinguished university, and published books? Bailyn might respond that New England was exceptional. However,....

前面关于high culture in the colonies ，作者是同意Bailyn 的，但是BUT的转折(反问道"17世纪的New England有如何呢？")告诉我们，作者在New England上是不同意Bailyn ，因为Bailyn 低估了殖民地文化。

而题目问的就是作者和Bailyn 都同意的观点，所以我觉得显然A(A认为作者和Bailyn 对于High culture in New England的意见是一致的)是错的。

同意楼上的.这题我以前也选A,现在看看应该选D吧?

况且除了楼上的看法以外,还有一句话" Bailyn might respond that New England was exceptional.",说明Bailyn可能会让步,让什么步?就是对他自己一开始那个不match提出让步.

最后however内容说,起源于New England的很多想法制度,都影响到了北美文化.
所以我选D,南部殖民地虽然没有提到,但是推理一步就可以得到结论.

D选项中的greatly influenced和原文powerful effect也有对应.

我觉得要看提干问Bailyn和作者共同同意什么观点，原文“It is true, as Bailyn claims”说明B=作者。而But后的是作者自己的观点，即在承认的基础上提出新见解。

怎样推理可以推出南部殖民地的情况啊? 文章都没有显示殖民地还分南北的吧.

我觉得文章里没有给出的信息的东西都是不能凭空猜的.

各位前辈都是08年讨论的。哎，11年考的我感觉时间好遥远。
不过看了半天，我想对第四题发表一下意见。一开始我也纠结了半天，不过我选的C。可是我觉得不管选C，选D也好，我们都有点跑偏了。其实问题考的就是这句话：It is true, as Bailyn claims, that high culture in the colonies never matched that in England.

不是考的后面的转折，考的是as Bailyn claims。这就是作者和B都认同的观点。

非NN，等待真考检验。不知道下一个看到这贴回我的人会是到了哪年呢？

哈哈，第四题我的看法是：high culture（高雅文化）只是colonial culture的一种，作者在high culture这一点上和B.B.意见一致，但是后面的转折指的应该是刨除high culture以外的其他殖民文化（作者举了例子的，比如建大学什么的，出书什么的），所以不矛盾。答案就是选A。D 很明显不对，文中没有提到southern colonies受high culture的影响。

想分析一下11楼。it is true这句是表明作者同意high culture in the colonies never matched that in England. But what of ...New England按11楼所说，“从语义角度看，这是对It is true, as Bailyn claims, that high culture in the colonies never matched that in England.这句话的反驳”，而我认为这是对前一句话的内容的反驳，就是对But to divide the empire into English core and colonial periphery, as Bailyn does, devalues the achievements of colonial culture.这句话进行的反驳， 作者承认Bailyn所说的never matched但是不同意Bailyn所说的devalues, 不相匹配和降低...的价值这是两个概念吧。
