从700到800不会增加录取概率? 楼上不要误导别人好不好。。。去看看各个学校中国人g的平均分  你毕业了找 ...

要看整体package能不能在同类候选人的pool中突出。如果你想用Gmat分数来做candidate differentiator,这个策略在M7基本没戏,所以很多顾问都说low Gmat would hurt you, but high Gmat wouldn't help you either.

I heard the pool is narrowed down to nationality and Industry background, I also heard some school even differentiate candidates base on the brand name of their school and company.

There are definitely a lot of things to be considered besides just a high Gmat score, otherwise every single student at M7 would be either a Chinese or an Indian.

To some schools, it is probably true, especially to the candidates in Consulting industry because too many similar candidates in this pool, so the competition is very fierce. Thus the application strategy became rather important.

Adcom considers undergraduate schools and majors to see how solid one's GPA is. Even if candidates graduated from various schools and majors, GMAT can always serve as a benchmark to verify the candidates' academic ability. Therefore, as long as the GMAT falls in the ballpark of that program, the candidate is fine. It is known that a higher GMAT score wouldn't guarantee the future success in career, it is purely a predictor whether the candidate can handle the coursework well in the upcoming studies.

being in the pool of 700+
background(whole page of yourself) is the most important thing in consideration!
if there are some with similar backgrounds, then the industry which you come from will be the most important thing!
even if it still has similar candidates, ok, gmat would be considered!

how about the IBT?
interview >>> score

I asked the sloan's dean of adcom about the IBT score problem, she said, ‘IBT? WHY? we have interview!’

Personally I think the following about an application's merits:

GPA: depends on your WE, the longer you worked the less GPA is meaningful (because it dates back farther), the school quality definitely plays a role here (a 3.5 GPA at Harvard isn't the same as a 3.5 at some random university that no one ever heard of)

GMAT: it's a standard benchmark, the higher is always better but once you're 700+ it doesn't help you anymore because first, everyone is above 700 and second the world knows Chinese/Indians are crazy at exams. If you proved the point that you can study, why prove it further?

WE: 3-5 years should be the best. (Again it matters because WE at JPM or BCG isn't the same as entry-level accountant)

Essay + Ref + interview: most important items in the package I believe, the only things that you can communicate by things other than numbers.

Let's be honest, everyone applying top school prolly have top numbers on paper, so in order to standout you need to focus on other things that can't be measured by a score.
