130(Q4). Some people believe that corporations have a responsibility to promote the well-being of the societies and environments in which they operate. Others believe that the only responsibility of corporations, provided they operate within the lwa is to make as much money as possible.

         With more and more corporations coming into being, some people claim that they have a responsibility to promote the well-being of the societies and environments in which they operate, while others believe that the only responsibility of corporations is to make as much money as possible with the permission of the law, which gives rise to the hot discussion on the duty of a corporation. I concede that any corporation is created to meet the demand in gaining profits, however, it is unjustifiable for them to take any means linked to the damge of environment as well as other respects to attain it.

         Admittedly, making money as much as possible is regarded as a most important task for those corporate executives with the permission of laws. A corporation is a business organization as well as an association or collection of individual real persons and other companies who have a common purpose or focus and an aim of gaining profit. Thus, we can safely draw the conclusion that any corporation is in great need of financial funding in order to thrive. In addition, corporation executives need enough money to pay for their staff in return for their hard work.
     
         Without the financial support, things will err from its correct ways. For instance, if the staff cannot get their deserved requite, then they cannot tackle their fundamental subsistence problems such as the three meals in a day, the housing problems and so forth. Devoid of such guarantee of subsistence, the staff will behave in depressed mood, which is of no benefits to the company, even leading to the bankrupt of company itself.

         However, as member of the whole society, the executive should be in possession of some other responsibilities as well, including but not confined to the task to promote the well-being of the societies and environments in which they operate. Obviously, even some corporations which are seemingly absolutely irrevelant to environments, are more or less related to surroundings. Thus, total ignorance of the environments will lead to irremediable problems. Take the example of a chemical plant which is built near the river. Although this factory is financially conducive to the development of itself, however, the excretion of such factory will lead to the reduction of the air condition, the pollution of the river, which is detrimental to the environment as well as the residents nearby.

         Moreover, considering in a long run for the development of the corporation, it is incumbent upon those corporate executives to bring about an effective and efficient structure of the company, as well as a harmonious, affirmative atmosphere, which will benefit the company endlessly in the long run, in spite of no profits immediately. Therefore, an in-depth investigation is needed. Otherwise, hasty decisions will inevitably lead to the stagnancy of corporations, even sometimes backward.

         Overall, it is indeed important for corporations to gain profits as much as they can, while at the same time such profits should be based on the promotion of the well-being of the societies and environments in which they operate. Otherwise, what they behave is of no benefit to themselves, nor to the society.
