12. Governments should offer a free university education to any student who has been admitted to a university but who cannot afford tuition.

Is it a good that governments should provide a free university education to any student who has been admitted to a university but who cannot afford tuition, as the speaker suggest? To a certain extent, I admit a free university education will bring benefit to students and parents. However, the speaker begs questions by overlooking the considerate role of anticipated potential problems and unfairly given a second priority. From my view point, financial power of government is crucial for the policy, and all full-scale consideration is needed when putting the suggestion into effect.

Admittedly, a free university education will reduce the tuition pressure of students and parents. For example, there was a period of China that canceling the tuition system. Until now, France
has this similar free university system for students and my friend of mine is one of the beneficiaries. Again, universities will put their attention into education and researches depending on the support of government. On the other hand, governments also require more praises, at least, from the parents who have kids to afford the investment of education.

However, after thinking further, the governments obtain applauses meanwhile under tremendous pressures. The first pressure resource is whether governments have enough financial power to provide all students who admitted to a university in the countries. There is nothing to think it must be an enormous sum. Plus, there is another possibility that some students would cheat on their economy condition, reducing credibility, in order to gain the free education. To avoid this situation happen, the governments have to spend human resources and financial resources to identify whether the information of students’ economy condition is real. Even it will have an answer, but it would cost a lot of time leading to these qualified students fail to enter universities in time.

To make the best of worlds, an educator suggests that the governments ought to afford education, providing the choice of free university education, but for the disadvantaged groups such single parent family, the citizens from poverty and so on. Before bring this policy into force, governments should establish a operation mechanism, like encouraging enterprises to share responsibility of financial; increasing the fairness of the free choice; suggesting universities first provide part-time jobs for these students; encouraging banks decrease the interests of education loan.

To sum up, a free education for talented students, it is not doubt to help them achieve their dreams or goals. More professional talents flood into the construction of the country, and it is the governments eager to see. Nevertheless, before the vision comes to the door, so many preparation works should be done. Cultivating persons with abilities at the same time not wasting taxpayer funds, causing unwilling to see things happened which against the original wishes.
