Is the objective to emphasize the importance of diversity in business? Or what's the exact meaning? Thanks!
What you said is just part of it. Moreover, you'd better emphasize what you have done in such setting with your understanding on diversity.
For DIVERSITY, there are some useful info I collected last year:
What does the “diversity” mean and what factors or contents does it include?
I do not think it only means international working or living experience or multi-culture background. Is it right to demonstrate in this essay that----
a) My work has made me travel nearly twenty cities all over China and communicate or cooperate with different people of various backgrounds.
b) My work has made me get to many different industries and bring me knowledge from lots of fields.
c) Demonstrating that I am a well-around person, having lots of hobbies, easy-communicating with different people, participating extracurricular activities actively besides the heavy work-load.
you should deliver two messages: 1) you really understand how diversity can leverage your business team work; 2) yourself have the unique part to contribute the team.
Additionally, if you happened to be the leader of that team, that's an extra point to show your leadership
it is not the same as "what can you bring to UMICH?" question. You need to rely on a personal experience to highlight the value of diversity. Don't waste time bragging your own diversity, spend more time delving into "What diversity really means and how it can bring value to the table?" You may talk about cross-cultural stuff, female and minority coworkers, people from different background etc. Choose the one that can differentiate yourself from others.
Don't write an ode to diversity. Many people spend half the essay writing about how much they value diversity, or about how important diversity is to enriching one's learning experience. Your readers know this, and you are wasting words by stating the obvious.
The other schools may ask about your experience in diverse situations. Again, this should not be an invitation to deliver a paean to diversity. If you're going to discuss the positive influence that diversity had on a situation, be sure to cite specific examples. Also, focus on your role even if the question just asks about your experience. You might emphasize such qualities as your ability to communicate, to cooperate, to bridge differences, and so on, but always with specific examples to back them up.
