答案为C，但是为什么D不对，OG的答案是awkward and wordy。。。能不能有大神给我一个详细确切的答案呢？

其实就说罗嗦，protecting 只有一个单词， as a protection of 有4个单词。。。。。。。。

OG上的解释的意思是：最后一个小句它修饰的主语是item，而protection是不可以修饰item的。they make no sense。
