I think "produce" can not be changed into "make" because there is no such error in ETS's sentence. "had not produced" might be the answer since it refers to the time from 1920 to 1940.

Here in the sentence, "the one" doesn't refer to "specimen". Well, if it refers to "specimen", the choice A might also be the key. Here, however, the sentence means "a person actually views the specimen". Thus, let's go to the accuracy of the word "one", refering to "an indefinite person, used to apply to many people; or someone". And "specimen" means "a portion or quantity of material for use in testing, examination, or study". Specimen can not view, it can only be viewed.

对不起，我用的是新东方的教材，应该是98－02年的题，但顺序打乱了，所以我也不清楚。
